Why?
Why are the people in this movie speaking English with vaguely Eastern-European accents? Why? If they're not going to speak Russian, can't they just speak English? Are we all retarded?

I remember when Rachel Weisz was doing press rounds for "Enemy At The Gates" and she was asked why none of the characters spoke Russian. Her response was because they didn't want to sound like "James Bond baddies" (paraphrasing Mrs. Weisz).
One of my favorite movies is Kevin Reynolds' "The Beast", which is about a Russian tank that gets lost in the desert and is hunted by the Mujahideen in 1981 Afghanistan. The actors playing the tank crew- Jason Patric, George Dzundza, Stephen Baldwin, and Don Harvey- all speak with American accents. However, Steven Bauer, playing the leader of the Mujahideen, speaks in Pashtu.
